Seattle Area Traditional Versus Trenchless Home Pipeline Repairs

In the past, the only way to access pipelines was to dig up the pipe manually, figure out the problem after lengthy examinations, and finally fix the root of the problem. This process was very extensive, forcing lawns and yards to be plowed through, and took a lot of time to complete. Due to the work involved and the time taken in some plumbing situations became extremely expensive. Because of the extra costs associated with digging trenches and plowing that would need to be fixed afterwards, many residents had to reduce how much they could repair, increasing the frequency of problems and repairs needed later on.

Our trenchless pipe lining services are eliminating all of the headache and most of the cost of old techniques. Our highly trained technicians at Jim Dandy Sewer and Plumbing are experts in these and can lend you a helping hand if you have a drainage problem.

How Are My Pipes Repaired Without Digging?

Our process starts with placing cameras into the pipes to figure out what preparations are needed to clean and fix them. Preparations can be a simple flushing of a clogged system to aggressive cleaning or serious root and clog removal depending on what needs to be addressed. Severely impaired or partially collapsed areas of piping must be evaluated by our professionals to ensure they can be relined without fully collapsing and causing larger issues.

Without a proper evaluation, a partially collapsed pipe can turn into a costly relining only to break completely before the relining process is finished- leading to an even larger problem. Once our technicians have properly examined the pipe, we get started on inserting the lining.

Once we select the best liner to use, we cut it to the length of the pipe, apply the resin, and pull it into the host pipe. The epoxy resin is selected while taking the pipes themselves into account, making sure that the old pipe can support the new liner while producing a product that will effectively work and keep the pipeline system as a whole operating smoothly. There are two different processes that help us pull the liner into the pipe. Each process is perfectly suitable, and depending on the technician and their equipment, one or the other will be chosen.

The Pull Method

This method uses a rope or cable that is placed into the pipeline and travels downstream until it reaches the end of the pipe, where it is secured to the liner. The rope or chain pulls the attached liner upstream. Once it is fully fitted and secured to cover the entirety of the pipe, it is inflated until it rests completely against the pipeline it has been inserted into.

The Inversion Method

This second method, which works just as well as the pull method, uses compressed air to push the liner into the pipe that needs repair. One end of the liner is attached to a device at one end of the pipe that pushes the liner into the pipeline. As the liner moves through the pipe it gets turned inside out, hence the processes name. When the liner fits the pipeline, it is trimmed to perfect length and then inflated until it is completely sealing the pipe.

Once the liner is in place in the pipe, it is cured with hot air or water. This makes the flexible liner turn into a stiff new pipe within the original line. This process saves so much time, money and aggravation from all involved and is one of the leading trenchless methods for pipe restoration and repair.

The Benefits Of CIPP Lining In Seattle, Washington

CIPP liners are designed to be very strong on their own instead of relying on the host pipe for any strength. The installation of a CIPP liner does reduce the diameter of the host pipe due to it being inserted under the host pipe. However, the small loss isn’t an issue as increased flow in the pipeline is guarded thanks to the liner creating a much more even and stable surface for the flow to pass through.

Cured-in-place pipe lining can also help fix many different pipe defects. If you have root problems within your pipelines, CIPP virtually gets rid of them since their liners are one long piece extending from manhole to manhole. This has been proven to reduce or eliminate rooting problems. Another fact about CIPP is that pipes from 3" to 96" diameters are installed every day. Plumber & drain cleaners now regularly use CIPP liners within pipes located under the floors of buildings to avoid costly excavations. CIPP liners can be installed in round, oval, egg-shaped or even square box-shaped sewers.

If you find that you do not need full pipelines replaced, point repairs are a perfect option for you. Point repairs are a type of CIPP repair, only instead of whole lines needing to be fixed much smaller lengths of cured-in-place pipe are used to repair damaged or fractured sections of pipe. This is a much less costly and quicker option for pipes that only have a small portion of them cracking or deteriorating rather than the whole line.
